Think Tank

Our think tank is the ideal experimental space for student ideas and formats for the further development of the scientific system!

The formats of the think tank are very flexible and include position papers, symposia, workshop formats, idea labs, and seminar and lecture series.

Starting with a strong focus on open science, the think tank offers the ideal environment for numerous other cross-cutting topics, such as science communication, interprofessionality and transdisciplinarity, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in science.

Research Events

NOS-curated events about science and open science.

YES Symposium

We contributed to the panel at the first Young European Symposium: “Breaking Barriers: Challenges and Opportunities for Open Science and Publishing in Europe.” Here, leading voices from across Europe and beyond discussed the current state of scientific publishing—and how open science can shape a more equitable future.

Symposium „Diversität. Wissenschaft. Dialog.“

Diversity. Science. Dialogue. Following the success of our last symposium, we went into the second round! How diverse is science and how does diversity influence our current research? How can scientific questions and practice benefit from equality? Who is committed to a more diverse research culture? All these questions were addressed in our various workshops on February 8 (2025).

Symposium „Feminismus. Wissenschaft. Dialog.“

In keynote speeches, a (fishbowl) panel discussion, and several workshops with a total of eight external speakers, we focused on the above questions and created a space for open, critical discourse, in-depth exchange, and personal networking.

reprodICUbility

Reproducibility is a cornerstone of the scientific method. Our goal is to develop an open reproduction pipeline for observational studies in intensive care.

Evidence-Based Society?!

How researchers can contribute to promoting democracy. A series of seminars addressing the challenge of interdisciplinary research communication.

Why We Need Open Science

The open science movement is gaining momentum in German and international academia. More and more journals, universities, and funding agencies are implementing open science policies and strengthening their commitment to greater transparency, accessibility, and reproducibility in research.

Open Research by Default

Open science is no longer a new concept! And yet we do not see widespread adoption within the scientific community. We are convinced that a change in perspective is needed to make open science the true standard for scientific research, and that we must build an open science environment “from the bottom up”!

Open Science – just Science done right!

How can Open Science support scientific integrity? How does the present system of research evaluation slow down the implementation of open science practices? Panel discussion with Amelya Keles, member of the NOS Executive Board.

Transparency and Openness in Peer Review

A workshop report from the Open Science Festival Hannover by Jonathan Speh, Amelya Keles, Raphael Leuner, and Ludo Waltman.
