Journal of the Student Network for Open Science (JNOS)

The first student-run open science journal for life and health sciences in the German-speaking area.

What is JNOS?

The journal of the Student Network for Open Science (formerly Berlin Exchange Medicine (BEM)) offers you the opportunity to publish your work in our peer-reviewed journal without incurring any costs and to gain valuable experience in publishing.

We offer talented and committed young scientists the platform to publish science based on term papers, doctoral theses, bachelor's/master's theses and any other type of research work. At the same time, we train students to become student reviewers in our self-designed peer review crash course and realize our quality assurance in a transparent and contemporary way in a post-publication review, purely student-based. After all, research-based learning lays the best foundation for entering academia!

All disciplines from the life and health sciences that work academically on medical topics find their place in our journal. This is why we particularly promote interdisciplinary concepts and work - because the future belongs to them on the ward and at the bench.

As a student-curated journal, we strive to provide other students with an uncomplicated and supervised introduction to the world of publishing. We attach great importance to transparency and a scientific orientation based on the principles of Open Science. It is therefore important to us that you retain all rights to your work even after publication.

Our goals

Our central goal is to make student research visible and to make it easier for students to get started in academic publishing. The following points are particularly important to us:

  1. Well-supervised and critical publication and review experiences for students
  2. Training students in the critical reading and evaluation of scientific publications
  3. Promoting critical reflection on our scientific system
  4. Interdisciplinary solutions for complex challenges
